As a nation of food lovers, in recent years we have become rather pre-occupied with imported oils, mainly olive oils from Italy, Greece and France but all this time we have been overlooking something special right under our noses.
The family behind Hill Farm have been farming in Suffolk for over 50 years but in 2004 they decided to use their high quality rapeseed crop to press a premium extra virgin oil and became the first British farmers to grow, press and bottle their own cold pressed rapeseed oil.
They use only the very best seed varieties selected for their superior taste, golden colour and high nutritional value, which is protected by their distinctive dark bottle. Unlike olive oil, rapeseed oil can be used for high temperature cooking as it has a very high smoke point but at the same time it is delicate enough to be used like olive oil for dipping and dressings. But that’s not all! Rapeseed Oil contains only half the saturated fat and 11 times the Omega 3 of olive oil. Rapeseed oil is a great source of Omegas 3, 6 and 9 all of which are vital for good heart and brain health.
Try Hill Farm drizzled over slices of toasted sourdough bread rubbed with fresh garlic and topped with avocado and tomato or whisk into egg yolks to make an amazing golden mayo.
